Good Money week highlights investors’ role in doing good with their money


It may or may not have escaped your notice but next week (October 19-25) is Good Money week, so I hope you have all ethically-minded purchases in mind. Ok, so that is not exactly what it is all about, but it is an opportunity to ensure those you trust with your money are looking after it well and using it in ways that benefit society and protect the environment.

Triodos Bank has released data from a study they conducted around investors’ attitude to their investments and the institutions with which they place their money. Among the results Triodos found that only a quarter of retail investors (26%) say they are aware of the true extent to which the activities that their funds / pensions invest in are ethical or not. Failure by investors to examine the funds they hold assets in is resulting in potentially 64% of investors placing money in companies and sectors to which they are ethically opposed. Yet 74% of investors would like their pensions and investments to be invested more in environmental and social sectors.
